The BJP-led NDA government headed by Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modiji has raised the minimum wage of unskilled, non-agricultural labourers of areas under Category C from Rs 246 to Rs 350 a day. This 43 per cent hike in the minimum wage of workers of the aforementioned category is yet another step of a government of the people, by the people and for the people towards realization of the dream of “Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat” (One India, Best India). I thank Hon’ble Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modiji and Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labour and Employment Sri Bandaru Dattatreyaji for this concrete step towards bettering the lives of poor labourers, and express my sincere gratitude on behalf of the BJP to them.
Poor workers across the country stand to benefit directly from this decision of the Modi government. It may be noted that the last time the minimum wage for these workers was raised was in 2008, which included allowance and yet amounted to a mere Rs 246 per day.
Furthermore, the decision to provide the arrears for financial years 2014-15 and 2015-16 to central government employees and form a committee to ensure that volunteers of Anganvadis, the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, ASHA and other unorganised sector workers have access to the government’s social security programmes is welcome. The move shows the commitment of this government to bring smiles on the faces of every poor worker and labourer.
Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi-led BJP government is wholly dedicated to the mission of empowerment of poor workers and bringing positive changes in their lives. The BJP respects the relentless and significant contribution of the labour force towards the progress of the nation. This government in its past two-and-a-half years of service to the nation has launched several welfare schemes. This has resulted in great success in the mainstreaming of that section of society which was trailing in the era of development.
