The Bharatiya Janata Party national president, Sri Amit Shah ji, addressed a public meeting in mphal, Manipu, this Wednesday, and appealed to them to work towards uprooting the Congress from the state and bring in a BJP government with at least two-third majority.
Sri Shah said that it was a foregone conclusion that the Congress government is going to lose the upcoming Assembly election in Manipur and be replaced by a BJP government of absolute majority. He wondered why a state of a glorious cultural heritage has been deprived of development. He recalled that one of the first promiises to the people that the Prime Minister, Sri Narendra Modi ji, made on assuming office was to begin a model of governance aimed at sabka saath, sabka vikas, meaning ensuring all-round development for all; and he had said that the Northeast would drive the country’s development. Sri Modi ji believes that development of India cannot happen without development of the Northeast, Sri Shah said, adding that in these two-and-a-half years, a lot of infrastructure development has taken place in the Northeast and several welfare schemes for the people of the region have been initiated. It is for the first time, Sri Shah noted, that a central government has instructed its ministers that each one of them must spend at lest 15 days in one of the constituencies of the Northeast.
Sri Shah said that Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government had made a donor ministry for the Northeast which was rendered ineffective by the Sonia Gandhi-Manmohan Singh government that lasted 10 years. Now, he said, the Modi government is rejuvenating the ministry. He said that people of the Northeast no longer require to go all the way to New Delhi to appeal for the development of their region. A special ministry, he said, was looking after the needs of the region. Sri Shah said that no meeting of the Northeast Council was held in the tenure of the Congress rule; by convening its meeting in Shillong, Sri Modi has restarted the process of development of the region. It is the Modi government that launched special university campuses for students from Bengaluru and the Northeast in New Delhi. Further, to give impetus to the growth of industry and trade in the Northeast, we will take an initiative called “Make in Northeast” along the lines of “Make in India”, Sri Shah said. He added that the present central government has taken special care to enhance railway connectivity across the Northeast. He reminded the people that the Modi government mooted the proposal of a sports university in the region, but the Manipur government of the Congress has not moved an inch on the issue. If this initiative had been taken earlier, Sri Shah said, then the country would not have to contend with a poor medal tally in the latest Olympic event. Manipur, he said, is production house of sportsperson. If government focus on sports in Haryana & Manipur, India will face no dearth of Olympic medals. He said that in order to enhance the rate of development of the Northeast, the Modi government had taken initiatives like Ishan Vikas, Ishan Uday (deveopment of the east and rise of the east) and invested a lot of capital in the power and telecommunication network of the region. This, he said, is also important for businesses and jobs in the region. The BJP, he said, dreams of a future where the youth of Manipur do not have to venture out in search of jobs but jobs arrive at their home-state.
Sri Shah said that Sri Modi’s initiatives for the Northeast cannot succeed with a Congress government in place in Manipur. He appealed to the party workers to work towards ending the Congress rule marked by anti-poor and anti-development activities. Hitting out at the Congress government of the state, he said that while the centre has allotted a lot of sum for the development of the Northeast, no result is visible in Manipur. The Congress is unable to tell the people of Manipur whether it has done work worth even a penny in the state, let alone account for the Rs 5,000 crore that were allotted to the state but never utilised, Sri Shah said. He said that the money meant for the development of Manipur went into the coffers of Congress leaders instead. E said that if the people of Manipur demand an explanation as to what happened to this money, the Congress would be too scared to even participate in these elections because it can give no credible answer to the question. He said that ruck after truck full of rice meant for the poor are dispatched to Manipur but the poor here are unable to get that rice at the intended cheap rates. He asked how people can entrust the work of development of the region with a party that does not spare even the food mean for the poor. The government had allotted a sum for cleanliness drive for lakes and ponds; the water-bodies were not cleaned, but the grant disappeared, Sri Shah told the gathering. He said that the authorities brazenly ask for bribes for recruitment into the police force. He condemned the Congress for plundering the state and said that the party should be ashamed of itself.
Enlisting a host of initiatives the Modi government has taken for the Northeast in general and Manipur in particular, Sri Shah said that the Congress government in the state simply makes their benefits for the intended recipients disappear. He said that the country has rejected the Congress, responding positively to Sri Modi’s appeal of a Congress-free India and that is why a party that once had 400 seats in Parliament is now reduced to 44 in the House. He appealed to the people of Manipur to ensure a Congress-free Manipur as well, while ensuring that a BJP government is formed with at least two-third majority in the state.
