Participating in the concluding ceremony of the Dhamma Chetana Yatra at the Vrijendra Swaroop Park, Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), today, the BJP President, Sri Amit Shah, hailed the monks who undertook the long march under the aegis of the Bhadant sect of Dhamma aimed at increasing spiritual, economic, educational, social and political awareness among the Dalits and underprivileged sections of society.
“I salute the spirit and energy with which you completed the Dhamma Chetana Yatra of more than 70,300 km, in the process spreading the message of the Buddha,” the BJP president said. He said that a similar programme was undertaken by Kanshi Ram who had formed the BSP for the uplift of the downtrodden, but Bhadant Dhamm Viryo eventually disappointed with the performance of that party’s government. “The BSP government was formed to work for the welfare of Dalits, poor and backward classes and spread the message of the Buddha, but what results did it deliver? The Dalits, poor and backward classes are still languishing in miserable conditions while Mayawati has amassed a lot of wealth,” he said.
Sri Shah said that the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre stayed in office for 10 long years, enjoying the support of Sushri Mayawati. “If anybody can be blamed for insulting Babasaheb Ambedkar, it is the Congress,” he said, adding, “All the governments of the BJP, be it at the Centre or of the states, have honoured the memory of Babasaheb by inculcating his thoughts into the governments and reviving the memorials associated with his life and times.”
The BJP president said, “Mayawati ji seeks pride in being the greatest well-wisher of Dalits; the Congress and SP claim the same, but I want to ask what the SP, BSP and Congress have done to revive the seven memorials of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar.” He added, “Building grand monuments in the memory of Babasaheb at his birthplace Mhow, the place of his higher education London, the place where he took the pledge of his life Vadodara, the place where he was baptised for uplift of the downtrodden Nagpur, the place of his demise Alipur Road and Indu Mills where his memorial is located — are all works of the Centre or BJP’s state governments.” It was the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government that installed the oil portrait of Babasaheb in Parliament House, he said. The Modi government issued a coin and a stamp to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar ji, Sri Shah said, adding that the BJP-led NDA government also convened a special one-day session in Parliament to pay tributes to Babasaheb.
Talking of the wretched condition of Uttar Pradesh, Sri Shah said, “It is beyond the capabilities of the Samajwadi Party government to correct the miserable state of law-and-order in the province.” Alluding to the feud in the family of the current rulers of the state, he said, “How can those who cannot settle the issues of their household manage law-and-order of the whole state?”
Focusing on Mayawati next, he said, “The BSP government was formed to work for the welfare of Dalits, poor and backward classes and spread the message of the Buddha, but what results did it deliver? The Dalits, poor and backward classes are still languishing in miserable conditions while Mayawati has amassed a lot of wealth.” He added, “Sushri Mayawati must declare how much property she had when Kanshi Ram ji had declared her his heir, and how much wealth her brother and she have now. If she does so, the Dalits of this state will know the reality.” When the Samajwadi Party forms a government, Dalits are persecuted; when the Bahujan Samaj Party forms it, they are exploited; the BJP alone works for the development of Dalits, said Sri Shah. Along the lines of the motto, sabka saath, sabka vikas, he said the Prime Minister , Sri Narendra Modi, wanted every Indian citizen to benefit from his development agenda. “Nobody but the BJP can usher in an era of development in Uttar Pradesh,” he emphasised. Dalits, the poor and other backward classes are at the centre of all welfare schemes of the BJP-led NDA government headed by the Prime Minister, Sri Narendra Modi, Sri Shah insisted, listing schemes such as the Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme. He said that if there was one entity that could uplift the lot of villages, farmers and the poor, it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Making an appeal to the monks who had just concluded the long yatra, Sri Shah said that the duty does not end with the culmination of the march; the message that it sought to spread must reach the people of the state. The Bhadant Dahmm Viryo has the passion to work for the welfare of Dalits, poor and backward classes and realise the dream of Babasaheb Ambedkar. He might have been disillusioned with Sushri Mayawati, but if the BJP to form the next government in Uttar Pradesh with his blessing, he will not regret the decision, the president of the party said, adding, “Our priority is to uplift the last man in the queue and bring him to the mainstream.” Under the leadership of Prime Minister, Sri Narendra Modi, the BJP is committed to realise the dreams of Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya — uplift of the last man and welfare of the poor, he added. This Dhamma Chetana Yatra by Buddhist monks will not go in vain. It will certainly bring change in Uttar Pradesh; the lotus will bloom here; happiness and peace will prevail in every household, Sri Shah concluded.
